About BPDP

The Balloon Pilot Data Port is a database of the documents issued to Balloon Pilots regarding their pilot certificate and their balloon.

Pilots upload these documents to the BPDP. Our staff (Ken) reviews each document for readability, completeness, and validity. Issued, performed, or expiration dates are entered. The system automatically calculates any expiration dates needed. Once the documents are reviewed the pilot is sent an email with the status of the documents. Each document has its own status message. These status messages are then aggregated to a single status for the pilot or the balloon. The status indicators include:

Current: The document is Valid and Current

Expires (date): The Document is Valid but Expires in the next 60 days

Expired (date): The document is Valid but Expired

Valid: The document is Valid (used for documents that don't expire.

Not Valid: The document is not valid. This can happen when it's unreadable or does not have the required language. ie Annual inspection, Satisfactorily Completed (Flight Review)

Missing xxx: Something is missing, could be the image or the date needed.

These status messages are sent at the beginning of each month. Since the majority of the documents expire at the end of a month, this provides the maximum notice for expiring documents.

Pilots can grant Event Organizers and the BPDP permission to share the documents and document status. This eliminates the need for the pilot to upload all these documents to each event they wish to participate in. Organizers can be assured they have access to the latest documents that have already been reviewed for accuracy and timeliness.
