Simply put, the Balloon Pilot Data Port is a clearinghouse for Balloon and Pilot documents.
Each pilot has at least 4 documents that are usually required to participate in balloon events/rallies. The front and back of their pilot certificate, a picture of the most recent flight review logbook entry, and a headshot. Some pilots may required to submit a medical certificate.
In addition, every balloon is usually required to have 4 or 5 documents. The most recent annual logbook entry, the current registration certificate, the airworthiness certificate, and a picture. Experimental balloons usually have a limitations document.
And don’t forget your Certificate of Insurance.
Many of these documents are a one-time issue. That is, they don’t expire. So why not upload them one time, to one place no matter how many events you attend? And wouldn’t it be nice to get a reminder when those other documents are about to expire?
The Balloon Pilot Document Database will do all of that for you. Upload all your documents the first time, then upload only what’s new or updated. And get monthly reminders about upcoming expirations.
For Event organizers, consider that you’ll be reviewing about 10 documents per pilot/balloon. Just 10 balloons means you’ll be looking at 100 documents! What if you could get a report on the status of all those documents for those attending your event? We can even send you the documents with the report if your local FAA office would prefer to view them.
